It is a long but a beautiful story, dear friends of the VEDIC CULTURE (the cosmic culture, created by Manuishya and upspring of Surya, the Sun-Dewata/God, the first ma on our planet Earth):
Long, long time ago, at another Yuga, many Millions years ago, here on Earth lived a Great demon King called Hiranyakashipu. He was really strong and highly powerful, that even the Dewas (like King of the Dewas Indra etc.) where afraid of him. He conqourt even their Loka (Planet). How did he become powerful (through penances, making special Yoga-practises etc.), so the Creator (The first son of God, called Brahma) came to fulfil his wishes, but one thing he could not give to him, Immortality. So instead of that Hiranya asked for:
1.) Never being killed by a man
2.) By a beast (animal)
3.) By a God (Dewata)
4.) Neither by night nor at daytime
5.) Neither inside nor outside
So through that he lived on and on making terror in the whole universe, conquert everything, except Mother Divine's , Shiva's and Wishnu's fields.
He was now King over the lokas of all Earth'es, the "lower" heavens and the underworlds, named Patala, Rasatala etc.......
There is in the Universe a cosmic traveller, a great and divine saint, called Narada Muni (Son of Brahma, the Creator of the Universe), he visits all planets and blesses the to blessed, teaches them highest knowledge, to reach finally Waikuntha (Krishna Heaven)etc. .....
When he came to earth, he saw that great power of Kashipu, and saw his first wifes (5. month of her pregnancy) would give birth to a son, being afraid that boy could go on with that negativities of his father, he stole the mother and caped her in his divine ashram (Place of a saint). So that boy heard in the womb everyday holy songs, holy lectures and the serene atmosphaere made that boy most holy. He grew up in that place until the age of 5, and then brought back to the fathers palace in south-India. The he started being trained for become a great asura (demon), but his teaches became made with him..
He did not listen to their teaching, instead of this he taught his friends holy things, chanting holy Vedic mantras etc.
When the father cam the schooll, he became made at his boy, because he was no asura, he was a saint.
He told the teachers, if he will not learn the doctrines of the asuras, he will kill the teachers, as well his son. But the son did not give up his ways to unfold enlightenment, so he said:
Son, who is to be adored in the Universe (because his father governs that range)?
Lord Râm has to be adored, He is the highest soul in the whole universe...
His father tried to kill him in many ways:
by an elephant, throw him down a mountain,
put him into the fire etc. but nothing harmed that holy boy.
At last, the boy had to drink poison, even this was just nectar...
So, always his mother insisted, let him life he is your only child.
Always God protected that great asura son, named Pralada.
In the end, in front of his assembly hall, he asked him:
Who is to be adored in the Universe.
Pralada said of course Lord Râm.
So his father said, where is that Râma?
He is everywhere inside you, my dear father, inside mother, even inside that pillar holding your palace.
Oh, no replied Kashipu, now I will kill you with my own hands, taking my sword, with that I did conquer the 3 worlds, but before this I will destroy that pillar:
He was throwing the sword against that big pillar, but out of it came a Divine Being, neither a man, nor a beast, nor a God, he was half man half Leon.
And because Hiranyakashipû asked for never being killed at day- or night-time, neither inside nor outside a place nor on the ground nor in the air; it was dusk, neither night nor day, Narasimha tuck him to entrance, which neither inside nor outside, holding him on his legs, neither high nor low and killed that asura with a great roaring; all the worlds became afraid, but the little child Phralada prayed to Him: Dear merciful Lord, please calm down and take pity on them.
So, God became soft again and tuck that little boy on his lapse and gave him sweet kisses. He made Pralada to King of Kings of the asuras and gave him eternal blessings.
That was the reason, why the Divine (LORD Maha- Vishnu) had taken this holy form.
So till today The Lord is cherished in this Divine Incarnation, the Lords 4 main Incarnate.
Hope you like the story a bit. It is from the Shrimat Bhagavatam written down by he great Vedic Master Veda Vyasa.
