This area is designed as an atrium to allow the cars to be seen from the third floor as well. The second floor also accommodates the carbon-fibre, car body, hydraulics and rapid prototyping departments.

The GS Trophy, a concept devised by BMW Motorrad, is an off-road event which offers ‘normal’ motorcyclists the chance to participate in a life-changing enduro experience. The BMW M3 model family is now being upgraded by another thrilling performer. Carsten Pries presents the world premiere of the new BMW M3 Convertible, the third body version of this high-performance sports car. Following the Coupé and Saloon, the M3 Convertible offers uncompromising driving dynamics in a new style. Compared with the 3 preceding generations from the past 20 years, this fourth generation of the M3 Convertible differs on an important point from its predecessors: the roof. For the first time the M3 Convertible comes with a retractable roof. The three-piece roof guarantees unrestricted all-year motoring pleasure and excellent noise management within the interior. Like the other models in the M3 Family, the M3 Convertible comes with an eight-cylinder. The specifications of this eight-cylinder are testimony to the F1 racing pedigree…. Another world premiere here in Geneva is the new BMW M Double-Clutch Gearbox with Drivelogic, available for all models of the M3 family. It offers an uninterrupted flow of power to the wheels. That means that the momentum built up when accelerating is never interrupted by changing gears…. In engineering terms: the flow of tourque is never interrupted. The result is that the BMW M3 with the double-clutch transmission accelerates significantly faster than with a manual transmission.

In 2008 BMW will have 700.000 vehicles on the road with BMW EfficientDynamics. This leads to a reduction in fuel consumption of 150 million litres of fuel. If these 150 million litres of fuel would be converted into electricity, this would be able to provide electricity for 780.000 people during one year… which is 4 times the size of Geneva. Apart form the 22 BMW models available today with BMW EfficientDynamics, BMW also offers visitors to the Geneva Motor Show a glimpse of what is to come. The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, which for the first time combines hybrid technology with BMW´s Variable Twin Turbo Diesel Technology.

The BMW 1 Series Convertible is the fourth model in the BMW 1 Series, following the five-door, the three-door and the Coupe, and continues to write the success story of this BMW model series. Thomas Muderlak explains how the conventional soft top offers the very best in terms of noise and heat insulation, and how this roof concept allows the car to maintain that typical convertible silhouette with its low waistline so characteristic of BMW Convertibles. Yet a further point is that this roof offers a significant reduction in weight, which contributes significally to saving fuel and reducing emissions.
