Dorothea Fayne (Mezzo-Soprano) sings Erda's aria from Richard Wagner's opera "Das Rheingold." This is a live performance of the aria. Erda is the Godess of the Earth and the lover of Wotan (King of the Gods). She bears seven children together with Wotan. But in this aria the two lovers are meeting for the first time. Erda tells Wotan about Eternity. She also tells him about her three daughters, the Norns, who supposedly were born from the "original love energy" that created the universe. In other words, Erda's first three daughters were born from a virgin birth. She also warns Wotan that he must give up the famous Ring or everything, including himself, will be destoyed. This proves to be impossible for Wotan, but not for Brunnhilde. Dorothea Fayne is accompanied by violin and cello in this original interpretation of Erda's Aria, "Weiche Wotan, weiche."
