Wonderfully shot period piece. I have the 1979 vhs movie version which is a great treatment too but not available DVD in USA, recently converted to dvd for UK but a poor job was done and only region 2 in PAL.
The German tv/movie,Das Ratel der sandbank, is also only in region 2 pal and unfortunately with out English subtitle option. Never the less if you know the story it does not matter much and the show is very faithfully to the book (as was the english movie). The biggest difference is the boat the Dulcibella which was a strange converted lifeboat in this version it is a lovely dutch/german type boat.A beautful substitute.
The English movie made a very good copy of Dulcibella for their movie as the original boat was owned by the book author Ersken Childers and photos existed that they may have used.
If anybody knows of a translation service to add subtitles or audio it would love to know about it..i guess if it is available then the UN would use it!
